Seasons consist of usually 8-10 weeks plus finals to determine the winners of each grade.
Some players elect only to be available as an emergency fill-in if required due to another’s absence. If you wish to be placed on the emergency list, simply contact the club on 0498 003 788
Our Association is affiliated with Table Tennis Victoria and therefore with Table Tennis Australia and the International Table Tennis Federation.
There is a modest fee to become a registered member which provides entitlement to a range of benefits including sports injury insurance, access to coaching and umpiring courses and eligibility to play in official tournaments throughout Victoria and Australia wide.
Closed Championships A closed championship is held each year to establish the top player in each grade. To be eligible to compete you must be a currently registered team member and/or have played in a team that year. Both singles and doubles are decided.
Open tournaments
Each year MFTTA runs an open tournament as part of the TTV coordinated tournament series held at various venues around Victoria. See https://www.tabletennisvic.org.au/tournaments/
Handicap Tournaments These tournaments are open to MFTTA players at any level of ability. New players will be graded by an official so they have the appropriate handicap according to their ability. Usually several of these tournaments are held each year.
Country week championships In June each year TTV coordinates the Country Week Championships over the Queens Birthday weekend at venues such as MSAC or Bendigo Table Tennis Association. MFTTA is defined as a Country Association hence it enters multiple teams for two and a half days of intense competition and enjoyment, and reuniting with old friends. It is a great way to improve your game and catch up with fellow players from all over Victoria. Country Week is the biggest event on the Victoria table tennis calendar each year, only surpassed by the National Veterans Championships and the Australian junior and senior championships.
Australian Junior and Senior Table Tennis Championships MFTTA has had past and current players at these events and has also hosted them in our world class facilities.
National Veterans Championships These events for over 30s players are held annually around Australia and coordinated by state and national bodies e.g. Table Tennis Australia. Each year MFTTA players participate if selected. Many Australian past Olympians attend.
Social table tennis is played by groups of (mainly) seniors or semi-retirees every morning during the week. For further information contact the stadium on 0498 003 788 and look under the "Social" tab.
During normal competition all results are entered into the Ratings Central system.
Most competitive table tennis players in Australia and around the world have a rating based on their match performances. The system is not unlike that for international tennis players. Ratings are often used to assist in grading players for various competitions/events and for selection to represent the club, State, or Australia.
MFTTA member ratings are updated regularly after competition matches and tournaments/events.
